  BATHROOM REMODEL!

Finally! We're getting our bathrooms remodeled! Starting on Monday, June 18th, the bathrooms will be closed and by mid-July, they'll open up and our brand new fancy bathrooms will be available for use! We'll have construction happening on the bathrooms daily from 4-noon, so to help keep the disturbance down we'll have that hallway door closed.

In the meantime, we'll have port-a-potties for everyone to use, which will be located out front to the right of our entrance. To keep our port-a-potties nice during this short time, please don't throw trash in the toilets (except toilet paper) and make sure to keep the lid closed to reduce smell.

  TEAM EDGEWORKS AT REGIONALS

We’re in sport climbing season right now and last month was the regional championship for the Washington/Alaska region. The comp was hosted by the Bellevue Stone Gardens. Of our 11 competitors at the comp, 10 placed high enough to receive invites to Divisionals, which was at ClubSport in Tigard,Oregon on June 9th & 10th. Our division includes, Washington, Alaska, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, western North Dakota, western South Dakota, northern California, and northern Nevada.

Stand out finishes were Kohle Andrews, who won the Male Youth D Division, and Emma Folkerts who took 2nd in the Female Youth B Division. You can find the full results of the comp here! Congrats, Team Edgeworks!

  YOGA AT EDGEWORKS

Why are Yoga and Climbing awesome when paired together?

"There are some essential similarities between yoga and climbing that make the two inseparable. With both, we find ourselves developing a certain level of awareness of our bodies ; we begin to understand the importance of breath control; we become mentally strong; we also enhance our physical performance.

Through being mindful and present during yoga and while climbing, we become able to pin point focus on specific parts of our body to allow specific movement. It enables us to control shaking muscles, and create the body tension we need to maintain a particular posture or technique.

Mental Strength happens through the balance of breath, mind and body. Breathing helps us to stay relaxed and focused in the present situation. This allows us to face our fears, and expand our physical limits.

Core strength, static movement, and muscle tension control are required for both climbing and yoga. Through development of movements that require these in one, we are preparing ourselves for the other. Common climbing tightness in hips, hamstrings, and shoulders can be relieved and improved upon by a good yoga session" -via Prana

At Edgeworks, we love to offer cross-training that helps you climb harder, and yoga is one of those awesome things that pairs perfectly with climbing. We have yoga classes 6 days a week at Edgeworks ranging from relaxing multi-level flow yoga classes, to invigorating power-vinyasa yoga classes! Crushing Tip
  C'MON CRUSH THIS!

Climb smarter instead of stronger. Train yourself to always find the easiest way up a route regardless of the grade. For example, if you are on a 5.9 and you are a 5.11 climber you could skip holds and muscle your way through just to get to the top, but that would neither make you a stronger or smarter climber. You might as well take that opportunity to find the easiest path to the top. If you feel like you are doing a move that is too hard for the grade STOP. Take one step back and try to figure out a better way. If you consistently do this on easier grades you will do it better on harder grades enabling you to climb at a much higher level. I can’t count the number of people who are putting in 5.12 effort on a 5.11 climb. Wouldn’t you want to be putting 5.12 effort on a 5.12, or a 5.13? I sure would… Always think critically about the way you are climbing something and you will learn more from the experience. Send smart and then you will send hard!
